TRAINING SCHEDULE

You go against the Way of the sword by trying to handle it with speed, and it will be difficult to wield. To the extent that you handle the sword well, you will handle it tranquilly. If you think you will handle it with the speed as you would a fan or a dagger, you will not be in accord with the Way of the sword, and it will be
difficult to wield.

NEW MEMBER INFORMATION

All individuals who wish to pursue the tradition of kendo are welcome at Sunrise Kendo Club. The best way to get a sense of whether Kendo is for you is to watch a class or, even better, to join in.

Feel free to drop by on one of our Open Practice days (Mon. or Fri. at 7pm during the fall and winter and Mon. or Thurs. at 7pm during the summer) and please try to arrive before the start of class. If you wish to participate in part of a class and you have no previous experience with kendo, simply wear some light sports clothing (e.g., t-shirt and track pants). You will not need to bring anything else. If, however, you feel certain that you are ready to start kendo, please go ahead and purchase in advance a shinai (bamboo sword) and bokuto (wooden sword). A link to our recommended local kendo supplier can be found on this page.
